Mr. Barton-Hanson is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery. His current posts are Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon Aintree University Hospitals NHS Trust Lower lane, Aintree, Liverpool, L9 7AL commenced January 2000 and Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Surgical Disorders of the Knee in Children, Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Eaton Road, Liverpool, commenced 2002.

His interests in knee surgery are arthroscopic surgery, meniscal repair, ligament reconstruction, the dislocated knee, articular cartilage repair, knee replacements, partial knee replacements, revision knee replacements and sports injuries. Ligament injuries and cartilage tears in children.

He admits patients to Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust, Alder Hey Children's Hospital, The Sefton Suite Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust and Lourdes Hospital Liverpool. In addition he consults at 64 Rodney Street Liverpool L1 and 1 Kenilworth Road Blundellsands Liverpool.

Medico-legal reporting since April 2000 for personal injury cases and does undertake clinical negligence work in the field of knee surgery.

He went to medical school in Liverpool and trained in orthopaedics and knee surgery in Mersey Region and Melbourne Australia.

His qualifications are: BSc Honours (Medical Cell Biology 2:1) Liverpool 1986, MB ChB (Honours) Liverpool 1989. FRCS (England) May 1993. FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics), November 1998. He is fully registered with the General Medical Council and insured with the Medical Protection Society. He is a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association and Member of the Liverpool Medical Institution.

Mr. Barton-Hanson teaches trainee orthopaedic surgeons in Liverpool. His other teaching commitments include acting as a surgical reference centre for the UK for the Accuris partial knee replacement and being a member of the Smith and Nephew Visiting Surgeons Programme. He also teaches minimally invasive partial knee replacement surgery in Spain, Germany and Holland.

Mr. Barton-Hanson has publications in peer reviewed journals on immunology, hip disorders in children and measurement of clinical outcomes after total knee replacement. He has also audited infections, blood transfusions and hospital coding.
