Mr Mike Hayton
Mike is on the Specialist Register as an Orthopaedic Consultant, and his clinical practice is exclusively surgery of the Hand, Wrist and Elbow.
In addition he is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Human Bone cell research group at the the University of Liverpool.
His adult NHS base is at Wrightington Hospital and he has a paediatric practice at the Royal Manchester Children's (Booth Hall) and Royal Liverpool Children's (Alder Hey) Hospitals.
Over the last few years Mike has developed a special interest in sports medicine and is the hand surgeon to over 25 professional sports teams and national sporting bodies. He has recently been awarded the status of a Founding Fellow in the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FFSEM UK ), He is an examiner for the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
He is a keen teacher and regularly lectures in the UK and Europe. Recently he has been invited to talk at the American Association for Hand Surgery in January 2008. His research is regularly published in European and American Literature.
His specialist training originated in Liverpool (4 years), a Whiston Hospital Plastic Surgery Hand Fellowship (6months), a Wrightington Hospital Fellowship (2 years) and as a visiting Resident to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, USA (3months)
Mike is married with two children. His hobbies are centered on sport and played rugby union at National level, ultimately Captaining the English Universities Team. A serious neck injury brought his contact sports career to a rapid halt and now plays golf (badly). |
